Morocco earmarks $4.5 million to university scientific research

Morocco has earmarked some $4.5 million for the promotion of university scientific research, part of a program meant to back scientific research.
Moroccan Minister of Higher Education Najib Zerouali, who disclosed the figures in Casablanca during the 19th scientific days of the association of resident physicians, said the program seeks to orient scientific research according to the needs and priorities at the national level.
The government has decided to allot 3% of the GDP to scientific and technical research and in 1998, some 191 scientific research projects benefitted from a global investment of about $3.5 million.
The current scientific days are discussing at the level of round table breast cancer, diabetes and occupational hazards in hospitals. The event provides opportunity to Moroccan university physicians and researchers to trade experiences with attending foreign physicians.
