Alexandria Library to be inaugurated at the end of 1999

It was decided to inaugurate the project to renovate the Library of Alexandria at the end of the current year to coincide with Egyptian celebrations of third millennium.
Meanwhile, the Egyptian government in cooperation with the international council of library secretaries is going to carry out a world information campaign to enhance the project in order to provide information about the project and give a chance to countries, international organizations and non-governmental organizations to participate in the project, which is considered one of the most important in Egypt.
The project is established on 45,000 square meters at a cost of $200 million, and at its inauguration it will include 5 million books, as well as 100,000 videocassette tapes and CDs in addition to electronic site on the Internet.
