Baghdad attacks the Gulf statement
Iraq, Politics, 3/18/1999

Baghdad strongly attacked a statement released by the Gulf Cooperation Council member states and accused Washington of seeking to divide Iraq.

The ministerial statement condemned Iraq's threats against Kuwait and Saudi Arabia, and urged Baghdad to end the policy of threats.

Diplomatic sources in the Iraqi Foreign Ministry said the statement has literally adopted US sayings and positions and used the language of the US policy concerning what is referred to as Iraq's refusal to cooperate with United Nations.

Meanwhile El-Gomhouria newspaper of the Algerian government accused the United States of seeking to divide Iraq and considered the imposition of the two no-fly zones as coming within the frame of this plan which the paper said aims at carrying out a Zionist colonization plan against Iraq.
