Jordanian Foreign Minister Abd al-Ilah al-Khatib has asserted that relations between "Syria and Jordan are those between brothers." In a statement to Monte Carlo radio on Tuesday, al-Khatib expressed his hope that cooperation between the two states will be revitalized in all areas. US warplanes renewed their bombardment on Tuesday noon of several Iraqi artillery positions in the no-fly zone in northern Iraq. The United Arab Emirates reached a 103 million dh agreement with Belarus' Baltec company to supply and maintain military personnel carriers, Khaleej Times reported. The agreement was one of several reached by the UAE with local and foreign companies worth 217 million dh so far during the UAE's Idex '99 defense exhibition, the report said. Go

An Iranian delegation will visit Iraq on coming May to resume discussions in order to reach fruitful results that aim at the return of the Iraqi captives to their country said Fahmi El-Kaisi, the head of the Iraqi side in the discussions regarding the captives. He said there are 9 thousand Iraqi captives - currently - at the Iranian side that are registered at the international Red Cross with another 3 thousand that evidences confirm their existence - as captives - in Iran. Palestinian Foreign Minister Farouk Qaddoumi described the Arab League council meetings that begin today as meetings for rectifying atmospheres and enhancing joint Arab work, pointing out that it comes in light of the demand for solidarity. Spokesman for the Kurdistani Workers Party (PKK) has denied in a telephone call with the AFP in Istanbul on Tuesday any responsibility for the explosion which took place in a trade center in the downtown of Istanbul on Saturday and resulted in killing 12 persons.
