Saudi Nominee for UNESCO Director General meets Arab Group
Saudi Arabia, People, 3/17/1999
The Saudi candidate for the post of Director General of UNESCO, Ghazi AL-Qusaibi, on Tuesday met with the Arab permanent delegates at the international Organization and discussed with them his future plan.
Al-Qusaibi, who now serves as the Saudi Ambassador in London, has already won the support from all Arab states to run for next November's elections.
At the meeting, Al-Qusaibi brushed off surrounding rumors that chances of winning the post by an Arab candidate was almost impossible because of human rights records or other reasons related to a possible French veto against non-French speaking nominees.
Al-Qusaibi also defended the Human Rights records and Democracy in the Arab World, saying that these issues have been dealt with in the Arab world with great respect.
The Saudi Diplomat said he would remain fully committed to the Rights of people according to UNESCO standards.
