EU voices support for Lebanon
Lebanon-European Union, Politics, 3/17/1999

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Tuesday discussed with a European Union Parliamentary group led by Hannes Swoboda the situation in south Lebanon, conditions in the Middle East and means of promoting the European-Mediterranean partnership.

The European delegation stressed the EU's backing for the Lebanese stand concerning Israel's unconditional withdrawal from south Lebanon and the Western Bekaa.

In a similar meeting held between Lebanese Prime Minister Salim al-Hoss and the EU delegation, the delegation chief, Swoboda, stressed the need for Israel's unconditional withdrawal from south Lebanon and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. He stressed the cohesion between the Syrian and Lebanese peace process tracks.

The EU official said the delegation paid a two-day official visit to Syria during which it visited the Golan Heights and will today visit south Lebanon to become acquainted with the situation there.
