Sudan for dialogue between northern and southern parts of the country
Sudan, Politics, 3/16/1999
The minister of state at the Sudanese Foreign Ministry, Ali Abdul Rahman Numeiri, has asserted that Sudan welcomes all attempts to reconcile the northern and southern parts of the country.
In press statements in Cairo on Monday following his meeting with Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid, Numeiri said that dialogue between the north and south is peaceful, especially as the problem requires a political solution.
"We agreed that IGAD (the Inter-Governmental Authority on Development) will be the form for such a dialogue," he said.
The Sudanese official continued that he asked that Arab League to support the Sudanese position in confronting foreign schemes against Sudan and to halt acts of intervention made by certain foreign forces in the internal affairs of Sudan in order to stabilize it.
Numeiri said he discussed with the AL chief the agenda of the 111th session of the AL council and means of purifying the Arab atmospheres in the coming phase.
