Lockerbie trial expenses to be shared by the US and Britain

A spokesman at the British Foreign Ministry said in London on Sunday that Britain is pressuring the US to pay half of the costs of trying the two Libyan, the west accuses to be involved in exploding the a PAN AM plane over the town of Lockerbie in Scotland.

The spokesman added that US and British officials are currently holding meetings in London with the aim to draw a plan to split the cost of the case, which is expected to be the most expensive in the judicial history of Britain. The spokesman added that he expects the costs of this long-lasting trial to be between 50 to 100 million pounds sterling.It is expected that the trial will last for three years if the two suspects appeal any decision condemning them.

The spokesman added that so far the US approved to pay only US $8 million.
