Lebanese operations against Israeli occupation in south Lebanon
Lebanon-Israel, Military, 3/15/1999
Lebanese resistance forces on Sunday carried out a series of operations against the Israeli occupation forces in the occupied part of south Lebanon. In a statement, the Lebanese resistance said resistance groups rocketed and machine-gunned a number of military positions of Israeli and Israeli-allied South Lebanon Army militia forces in the areas of Sujoud, Kassaret al-Aroush, Beer Klab, Beit Yahoun, Hadatha, Barachit, Teir Harfa, Balat Dibshe and Sweida.
The positions were directly hit and a number of their detachments were destroyed as a result of the daring operations, the statement said. It pledged that resistance operations will continue unabated until liberation and freedom are fully realized.
Lebanese security sources said, meanwhile, that Israeli military helicopters flew over the targeted positions to render assistance.
The Lebanese source added that Israeli heavy artillery shelled several villages close to the occupied zone. The bombardment coincided with intensive sorties carried out by Israeli war planes over south Lebanon, especially al-Nabatiyeh and al-Tuffah district, the sources continued.
The Lebanese sources added that high-ranking Israeli army officers on Sunday afternoon toured a number of areas inside the occupied part of south Lebanon. Strict security measures were taken against the people of southern Lebanon.
Further reports made earlier in the day from south Lebanon said Israeli gun-boats continued to impose a blockade on the port of Tyre. The reports added that the Israeli Navy seized a ship which was coming to Tyre.
