US ambassador finds himself in danger on 21st anniversary Israeli invasion of Lebanon
Lebanon-Syria-USA, Politics, 3/15/1999
Guards of the US ambassador to Lebanon, David Satterfield, were on Sunday obliged to prepare their machine guns in order to open the road before the car of the ambassador in the Eastern al-Bekaa plain in confrontation of an anti-US demonstration.
A Lebanese security source said the US ambassador found himself besieged by demonstrators who were partisans of the Hizbullah party and the Syrian National Socialist Party at the crossing of al-Karak town at the northern entrance of the city of Zahleh.
The source explained that some 200 demonstrators were demonstrating on the 21st anniversary of the first Israeli invasion of Lebanon, chanting slogans against US policy.
