Lebanon revives tomorrow the 21st anniversary of the Israeli invasion of the south
Lebanon, Politics, 3/13/1999
Lebanon is reviving Sunday the 21st anniversary of the first Israeli invasion of south Lebanon in 1978, and the issue of Security Council resolution 425, which calls for Israel's withdrawal.
The Lebanese ambassador in Cairo, Hisham Demashkeh, issued a statement on this occasion in which he said that "during the long occupation years, Israel implemented daily aggressions and unjust practices against the civilians, due to which the occupied area was turned into a theater for violence and tension, in addition to the military operations due to which thousands of innocents were killed."
He added, "Israel still detains a great number of Lebanese citizens and it refuses to release them, violating the provisions of international law, the Geneva Convention of 1949 and principles of human rights."
The statement added that, "The end of this tragic stance will come through applying Security Council resolution N 425."
