Qatar has valued the total investments in projects for gas liquefaction in Qatar at nearly $8.5 billion. These projects could help address the financial deficit and promote economic growth.
An official economic source stated that these investments included the establishment of several projects for gas liquefaction in the north field and building a dam and harbor to transport the liquefied gas to foreign markets, saying that the total production amounts to 11 million tonnes annually, most of which will be exported to the Asian markets.
The projects include Qatar's Ras Laffan Liquid Natural Gas Company besides Ras Laffan harbor at a cost of one billion dollars and will serve the Ras Gas company, which will begin to export its production on 2000.
The sources confirmed that Qatar's gas projects will begin to export about 4 million tonnes in 2000, adding that the total investments in this project amount to $401 billion.
