Moroccan clubs start contests in three African cups
Morocco-North Africa, Sports, 3/12/1999

Three Moroccan leading clubs will start as of this weekend competing in three African cups.

Raja of Casablanca will fly to Senegal to meet the Ndiambour club in a first leg match for the African champions league.

The Casablanca club will try to make up for the negative results it registered in the few past months. Raja's decision to hire the shrewd and experienced Argentinean coach Oscar Fullone tells much about the club's determination to win again the trophy it grabbed in 1997 and bag the mouth-watering jackpot of $ 500,000.

The Rabat military team of FAR seems to have an easy start in the African Cup of Cup winners with an almost unknown opponent from Senegal, Yeggo club.

FAR wants to mark a strong comeback this year to the African football scene after a long absence. The team had won the African Cup of Champion Clubs in 1985, when it mustered a group of stars led by Mohamed Timoumi and coached by Brazilian coach, Mehdi Faria.

Wydad of Casablanca, one of the legendary teams of Morocco and Africa, will start its adventure in the CAF cup with a match against an old acquaintance of African football, Al-Ahly of Benghazi (Libya).
