Iraqi opposition says Baghdad involved in assassinating al-Sader
Iraq, Politics, 3/11/1999

Sources in the Iraqi opposition said today that the Iraqi government is the only one to be blamed for assassinating Ayatollah Muhammad Sadeq al-Sader and his two sons.

Mohammed Bahr El-Oloum denied the new reports accusing Muhammad Baqer al-Hakim, head of the Supreme Council for the Islamic Revolution in Iraq, of the killing and considered them as having nothing to do with truth.

He said that assassinating al-Sader comes from the government's aim at terminating Shiite religious leaders to place the public under the auspices of the ministry of endowments.

A source in the party of Islamic call in London asserted in a press statement yesterday the responsibility of the Iraqi government in assassinating al-Sader, referring to many signs, especially the way which the assassination and burial of the Ayatollah was announced.
