Life imprisonment sentences for six Libyans over bombed plane incident

The Attorney General in charge of terrorism cases at Paris' general court demanded on Wednesday life imprisonment sentences for six members of Libyan intelligence who are accused of being involved in the explosion of a DC-10 plane from the French UTA company.

The plane explosion, which took place on September 19, 1989 resulted in the death of 170 persons.

The trial was carried out in the absence of the accused persons. They will be retried if they are brought before any French court.

The trial of the six Libyans started last Monday before a 7- judge court chaired by judge Eve Jacob.

A pack filled with explosives was placed in Brazzaville in Congo on board a DC-10 plane heading for Paris exploded over the Niger desert and destroying the plane.
