Lebanese president stresses cohesion between Syrian-Lebanese tracks
Lebanon, Politics, 3/11/1999

Lebanese President Emile Lahoud on Wednesday warned against Israeli traps and maneuvers aimed at separating the Syrian and Lebanese tracks in the Middle East peace process.

In a press statement he made prior to convening a meeting of the Lebanese Cabinet on Wednesday evening, Lahoud asserted that all Israeli attempts will be foiled and that "nobody will be able to separate the two tracks." He reasserted Lebanon's position on the Arab -Israeli conflict which calls for the implementation of international legitimacy resolutions, especially resolution 425 calling for Israel's withdrawal from south Lebanon and the implementation of the land for peace formula.

The Lebanese president stressed Lebanon's rejection of any amendments to the "April Understanding" or any security arrangements or conditions imposed by the Israelis on their withdrawal from the Lebanese territories.

Meanwhile, Lebanese President Emile Lahoud has asserted unity between the Lebanese and Syrian tracks. At his reception of al-Wafaa bloc for resistance led by Lebanese Parliament Member Ibrahim Amin al-Sayed on Wednesday, the Lebanese president stressed his backing and full support for the Lebanese resistance and rejection of any security arrangements demanded by Israel.

In a statement following his meeting with the Lebanese president, al-Sayed said general developments concerning the situation in south Lebanon were reviewed in light of the victories recently realized by the Lebanese resistance against the Israeli occupation forces and the importance of the Lebanese people and officials' stand in backing the resistance and curtailing suspicious Israeli moves.
