German traveler starts international bicycle tour from Syria's Palmyra

The ancient city of Palmyra (the place of Palms) in Syria has stood at the cross roads of many civilizations and had seen many ancient visitors on horses, camels and caravans is seeing a visitor of a different kind.

A German on a bicycle that loves the ancient city for its many ruins that include Roman temples and the Temple of Artemis, and the Roman triumphal Arch is about to embark on an international tour from this city that was ruled by the famous queen Zenobia.

German tourist Helmut Power started a trip on his bicycle from the city of Palmyra, central Syria, to his home country. In a statement to a SANA correspondent, the German traveler said that his three-month trip, during which he will cross Jordan and Egypt, will cover 6,000 km.

He said that Palmyra is the "most amazing historical and archaeological monument I ever seen in my life." He indicated that he had made several long tours on his bicycle during which he visited France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy, crossing a distance of 8,000 km.
