The 32nd session of the Cairo International Market is starting today with the participation of 53 countries and more than 1,000 foreign and 2,000 Egyptian companies. Egyptian Minister of Trade Ahmed Goweili told ArabicNews.com that 13 countries are participating for the first time. The European Union decided to finance three projects to renovate Arab monuments in Egypt and the Maghreb in light of the cultural agreement endorsed between European Union and a number of countries. Tunisia has chosen the project of Magra El-Eioon fence at Carthage to expand to 132km, as some of its parts have disappeared. Egypt chose to renovate the monuments of El-Polyzome region at Sinai, while Morocco did not agree upon a project that deserved to be repaired, but suggested several of its monuments. Go

A high-ranking Kuwaiti official told ArabicNews.com that Kuwaiti Crown Prince Saad al-Abdullah al-Salim al-Sabah will convey ideas to Iran aimed at reaching a solution to the dispute between Iran and the United Arab Emirates over three Gulf islands. The official added that Kuwait has nothing to do with not convening the seven-fold committee concerned with the status of Iraq, asserting that Iraq is the one that refused to convene the committee. US Undersecretary of State Stuart Eizenstat said yesterday in statements to the Washington Institute for Near East Policy that a "top priority" in US peace efforts focuses on achieving economic benefits related to the peace process, especially for Jordan and the Palestinian self-rule areas. "Both signed peace agreements with Israel, and neither has yet seen an economic peace dividend. This lack of a peace dividend, in turn, has undercut support for the peace process," Eizenstat said. The Saudi royal court announced today that King Fahd's first wife Aanoud died today after long sufferings from a chronic disease. She is survived by five children, Qatar's Al-Jazira TV said today. Go

Algerian dailies published on Monday said that some 16 Algerian military men were killed and another 21 wounded on Monday morning in an ambush planted by armed men near al-Buweira to the east of the capital Algiers. The Algerian papers explained that the Armed Islamic Group planted the ambush for a manned patrol heading from Burj Odreis town to al-Ghuzlan market. One of the attackers was killed in the confrontation. Go

The Kurdistani Workers Party (PKK) has asserted that it shot down on Sunday a Turkish Army helicopter in southeastern Turkey and that the incident resulted in the death of 20 Turkish soldiers on board the helicopter. AFP quoted the Pro-PKK party "Deem" news agency as saying the aircraft is of Sikorsky type. Meanwhile, Turkey on Monday denied news that the PKK downed a Turkish military helicopter in the southeastern part of the country. Go
