Iran, Pakistan discuss developments in Pakistan

Iranian President Muhammad Khatami on Sunday night received the speaker of the Pakistani Parliament, Alhi Najash Sumoro, currently visiting Iran. Talks dealt with bilateral relations, regional and international issues of mutual concern and developments in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Afghan committee at the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Taher Bann, discussed with the special representative of the UN chief, al-Akhdar al-Ibraheimi, the Afghan issue developments in Afghanistan.

Al-Ibraheimi highlighted the efforts exerted by the UN to settle the Afghan crisis and to convene the meeting scheduled to be held in Is'hq Abada among representatives of the Afghan conflicting sides on March 10.

The UN delegate expressed the UN's desire to send humanitarian aid to Afghanistan through Iran.

For his part, Taher Bann noted the importance of the UN role in settling the crisis in Afghanistan. He stressed Iran's readiness to cooperate with the UN to establish peace and provide aid to Afghanistan.
