Morocco wins one silver medal, ranks 20th in world indoor athletics championships
Morocco, Sports, 3/8/1999
Female Athlete Zahra Ouaziz saved Morocco's honor during the Baebashi's World indoor championships in Athletics, when she won a silver medal on 3000 m allowing her country to rank 20th among world teams.
Ouaziz, a determined and hard-working athlete who made her way to the pantheon of international stars, came in second with 8:38.43 in the race won by the unrivaled Gabriella Szabo of Romania. The third place went to US Regina Jacobs, who clocked 8:39.14.
Ouaziz becomes, thus, the first Moroccan woman to mount the podium in the World indoor championships.
Morocco was represented by Ouaziz (3000 m), Hasna Benhassi (women's 800 m) and Adil El-Kaouch (men's 1500 m).
