Regional, Economics, 3/8/1999
The establishment of an Arab work's council to upgrade the Arab mutual work in all fields under the patronage of the Arab League was announced yesterday in Cairo, to be the first Arab non-governmental organization not targeting profit under the sponsorship of the AL.
The preparatory committee for the council, in which 40 high-profile Arab businessmen have taken part, released a concluding statement that reviewed the challenges confronting the Arab states on the threshold of the 21st century, adding that they have established a committee under the chairmanship of Bahraini businessman Ali Ben Yousef Fakhro to pursue the steps for constituting and amending the basic draft law of the council and to prepare for the first governmental assembly for this council.
The businessmen participating in the first meeting held on Thursday at the headquarters of the Arab League's general trusteeship donated 2 million Egyptian pounds as a start for collecting funds to achieve the council's objectives.
