El-Ganzouri refuses to exchange Israeli spy for Egyptian prisoners in Tel Aviv
Egypt, Politics, 3/8/1999

Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri excluded Egypt's acceptance of the offer Israel repeated the day before yesterday through President Ezer Weizman concerning exchanging convicted Israeli spy Azam Azam for Arab detainees in Israel.

He said that when it concerns the judiciary in Egypt there will be no room for political exchanges, because only the judiciary determines this issue.

He added that Azam committed an error and was presented to the judiciary, where a case was proved against him, and no one else has the decision but the judiciary.

El-Ganzouri said that what takes place in south Lebanon is an echo of the peace process' halt on the Palestinian track, as when the peace process stops, violence takes place in the area. He also blamed Israel for halt of the Middle East peace process.
