On his visit to Bahrain, King Abdullah appoints his elder uncle, Muhammad, as his deputy
Jordan, Politics, 3/8/1999
Jordanian King Abdullah Bin al-Hussein upon leaving for Bahrain on Sunday to take part in the condolences on the death of the late Emir of Bahrain Issa Bin Hamad al-Khaleifa appointed his elder uncle, Prince Muhammad Bin Talal, as his deputy (a position that had been occupied by Prince Hassan during the absence of the late King Hussein).
Prince Muhammad (59) occupies the post of the personal representative of the King, and he was the crown prince before the birth of the elder son of King Hussein, now King Abdullah.
In 1965, the Jordanian king amended the constitution to appoint his brother Prince Hassan (51) as crown prince instead of his son, who was then two years old, and then King Hussein restored the post of crown prince to his son just two weeks before his death.
