Bahrain, Politics, 3/8/1999
The new Bahraini Emir, Sheikh Hamad Bin Issa Bin Salman al-Khaleifa, said on Sunday that his country will keep the same policy pursued by his father, Sheikh Issa Bin Salman al-Khaleifa, who died on Saturday.
In a statement to the Saudi daily Okaz published on Sunday, Sheikh Hamad said that matters will "proceed at the will of the late Emir of Bahrain, and we will work to continue with the stability he had made and preserved throughout all his life."
Meanwhile, a Bahraini official source said on Sunday that security conditions in Bahrain are calm and stable, noting that no disturbances took place following the death of Bahrain's ruler.
The source told Okaz daily in a statement that, "The atmospheres are good, except for the state of sadness which prevails on the Bahraini street."
