Libyan - Egyptian summit today

The works of the Libyan - Egyptian summit started today between Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Colonel Moammar Gaddafi, leader of the Libyan revolution.

The leaders' discussions are focusing on studying the latest developments in Lockerbie crisis and diplomatic efforts exerted by Egypt.

The two leaders' discussions will also tackle the latest developments in the Arab and the African arenas in addition to Libyan - Egyptian relations and methods of developing them. Gaddafi's visit for Egypt will last for several days.

The two sides will continue their meetings later today. "In the evening the two leaders will continue talks, to be followed by a working dinner," Egyptian Minister of Information Safwat al-Sherif said. "They, further, reviewed latest and current contacts conducted with several other parties," Sherif said, referring to coordination between Egypt Saudi Arabia and South Africa over Lockerbie.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa stated that there that there are many required guarantees and communications with the United Nations secretary general for eliminating the Libyan fears regarding delivering the suspects and expanding the court's jurisdiction in the Lockerbie incident. He said Libya has the right to adhere to uplifting the sanctions in return for the delivery of the two Libyan suspects for trial.

The Libyan Leader is accompanied with high-level delegation, including ministers of economy, industry, energy and foreign affairs. Gaddafi arrived Friday to Mersa Matrouh on Egypt's northwestern Mediterranean Coast.
