Turkey demands exceptions for trade with Iraq
Iraq-Turkey, Economics, 3/5/1999
Turkey presented an official request to the United Nations to benefit from an item in the resolution imposing sanctions on Iraq to allow Turkey exceptions in its trade with Baghdad like the position Jordan enjoys. Diplomatic sources in Cairo told ArabicNews.com that Turkey's request, which has yet not been answered, refers to great losses in Turkey's trade due to its commitment to applying the commercial embargo imposed on Iraq since the 1991 Gulf War.
