Three Egyptian films submitted for inclusion in Cannes festival
Egypt, Politics, 3/5/1999
The national center for cinema in Egypt has sent requests for the participation of three Egyptian films, "The Land of Fear," "The Paradise of Devils" and "90 and 91," in the French film festival in Cannes, which will be held in May.
The deputy chairman of the center told ArabicNews.com that the Egyptian Ministry of Culture is very interested in taking part in this cinema festival in an effort to open new markets to Egyptian films away from the Arab market, which is the traditional market for Egyptian cinema.
The deputy chairman added that the films are submitted for participation in more than one category of the festival and not only in the formal competition.
Director Youssef Chahine denied the participation of his new film, "The Other," in the competition and confirmed that the film will be presented on the margins of festival only.
