Fire opened on the US embassy in al-Khartoum

Eyewitnesses in Khartoum said that unidentified men on a motorbike on Thursday opened fire at the closed US embassy in Khartoum, noting that no casualties were reported.
The eyewitnesses added that the armed men on Thursday at dawn opened machine-gun fire on the headquarters of the embassy, which is located on one of the main districts in the capital, Khartoum.
The US diplomats evacuated the embassy and shifted to Nairobi in February 1996, under security pretexts. In the US embassy in Khartoum, all that was left was the Sudanese staff in charge of administrative tasks and the embassy's guards.
