Jordanian flag hoisted in Kuwait
Jordan-Kuwait, Politics, 3/4/1999
Jordanian Foreign Minister Abd al-Ilah al-Khatib on Wednesday hoisted the Jordanian flag in front of Safir International Hotel in the Kuwaiti capital to mark the resumption of full diplomatic relations between Jordan and Kuwait, ceased following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990.
In a speech he delivered following the hoisting of the flag, the Jordanian foreign minister said that "relations returned back to what had been before."
The hoisting of the Jordanian flag came after al-Khatib met with representatives of the Jordanian community in Kuwait. He noted in his speech that "the past phase was painful, which we all suffered from and paid a dear price."
Al-Khatib expressed his optimism on the prospects of relations. Meanwhile, Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah showed no restrictions by the Kuwaiti side for the return of Jordanians to working in Kuwait.
He said, replying to a question during a press conference with his Jordanian counterpart on Wednesday: "There is no obstacle against any Jordanian to work in Kuwait."
