AL chief confers with Belgian crown prince

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid on Wednesday in Cairo discussed with the Belgium's Crown Prince Philip the latest developments in the Middle East, its current stalemate and the conditions in south Lebanon. The two sides stressed the grave consequences of these developments on Middle East's security and stability.
The UN chief called upon Belgium and the European Union to carry out their role in reviving the Middle East peace process by urging Israel to abide by agreements signed with the Palestinian side, to halt its aggressions against south Lebanon and to implement UN Security Council resolution 425, which calls for Israel's wothdrawal from Lebanon, unconditionally.
The AL chief said that talks dealt with the Euro-Mediterranean partnership through the meetings to be held shortly in Stuttgart and through working to implement the Barcelona declaration concerning peace and stability in the Mediterranean.
On the other hand, the AL chief asserted that the question of Lockerbie is proceeding toward a final settlement.
