Compensating the owners of land taken for Gaza airport
Palestine, Economics, 3/2/1999
The legal committee in the Palestinian Legislative Council recommended today the start of compensatory payments to owners of the land that was confiscated to found Gaza International Airport nearly 5 years ago.
Abd El-Karim Abu Saleh, head of the committee, said the committee recommended in concluding its session in Gaza city the start of the first practical steps in compensating those harmed.
He added that the committee ratified the estimation of the presidential committee that was formed according to the presidential resolution 150 for 1994 for considering the financial conditions through which the Palestinian Authority passed.
Abu Saleh expected that the legislative council might agree on this recommendation when presented to it in the coming days.
The decision will be raised to the Palestinian Cabinet to start compensating those whose lands were used.
