Jordan-Kuwait, Politics, 3/2/1999

Jordanian Foreign Minister Abd al-Ilah al-Khatib arrives today on the first visit by a Jordanian foreign minister the since liberation of Kuwait from Iraqi occupation in 1991.

During his two-day visit, al-Khatib is to meet with Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmed al-Sabah, Crown Prince and Prime Minister Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah, and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmed al-Sabah.

Jordanian diplomatic sources said the talks tackled the relations between the two countries, the situation in the region, the Iraqi crisis, and peace in the Middle East.

Al-Khatib is going to attend the raising of the Jordanian flag over the temporary headquarters of the Jordanian embassy as the last step in restoring good diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Al-Khatib was originally to pay this visit in February, but it was postponed due to the death of King Hussein.
