UAE hands over a memorandum of protest to the Arab League against Iran
United Arab Emirates-Iran, Politics, 3/2/1999
The United Arab Emirates on Monday submitted a second memorandum of protest in which it accused Iran of threatening the security of the Gulf and perpetuating its occupation of the three UAE islands of Greater Tanb, Lesser Tanb and Abu Mousa.
On Monday in Cairo, Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid met with the UAE ambassador and permanent representative at the AL, Muhammad Ahmad al-Mahmoud, and received the UAE memorandum and a copy of the message of objection delivered by the UAE Foreign Ministry to the Iranian ambassador in Abu Dhabi.
Abdul Meguid gave the UAE ambassador a message to his foreign minister, Rashed Abdullah al-Nueimi, telling him of the AL's full support and backing for restoring sovereignty over the three islands.
