Mordechai calls for a settlement in Lebanon in the presence of Syria
Israel-Regional, Politics, 3/2/1999

Former Israeli Defense Minister Yitzhak Mordechai said that no solution will be found for Israel's plight in Lebanon without entering into the Syrian court and without direct US intervention, which will be conducive to settling conditions there.

In an interview he gave on Monday to Israeli Army radio, Mordechai added that the successive events in south Lebanon reveal that no solution can be imposed simply through military intervention and other political means should be found.

He said that all attempts made to perpetuate a certain condition in Lebanon had failed and proven that without direct Syrian and US intervention all attempts will be doomed to failure.

He called for finding a way to hold negotiations with Syria to find a satisfactory solution for all sides concerned.
