AL chief asks Iraq to release Kuwaiti prisoners

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid on Sunday congratulated the Emir of Kuwait, Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah, on the eighth anniversary of Kuwait's liberation. He expressed hope that the current year will witness the return of the Kuwaiti prisoners to their families and relatives.
Abdul Meguid had raised the question of the Kuwaiti prisoners with Iraqi President Saddam Hussein during his visit to Baghdad in previous February. Then, the Iraqi president released all Arab prisoners held in the Iraqi jails, but the Arab foreign ministers demanded Iraq in their final statement of the recent meeting of the Arab foreign ministers held on January 24 to cooperate with the International Red Crescent Society concerning Kuwaiti prisoners in Iraq after the representatives of the Iraqi side abstained from attended the meetings of Geneva for the International tripartite committee concerning the file of the Kuwaiti prisoners.
