Arab states discuss peaceful uses for atomic energy

Arab League Secretary General Esmat Abdul Meguid along with the head of International Atomic Energy Agency, Mahmed El-Baradey, are to inaugurate on Tuesday a conference on nuclear energy and its peaceful use in the coming century.
Diplomatic sources in the Arab League told ArabicNews.com that the conference will discuss research concerning protection from nuclear radiation and the use of energy for development in Egypt, in addition to the use of atomic energy in producing fresh water.
The conference will also discuss the role of Arab Organization for Atomic Energy in upgrading the peaceful use of atomic energy, an international system for international guarantees about atomic energy, and establishing a region free of nuclear weapons in the Middle East.
