Morocco, Politics, 2/27/1999
A symbolic women's parliament will be held in Rabat next April 17-18. The symbolic legislative forum is meant to consolidate women's political, juridical, economic and cultural rights, the Moroccan Union for Feminine Action, which is sponsoring the event, said in a statement.
The "parliamentary session" will be attended by representatives of non-governmental organizations, governmental officials, members of political parties, trade unions and women's associations. It will adopt recommendations and requests that will be submitted to decision-makers.
The statement also announced that part of the celebration of women's day on March 8, the union will hold the fourth "women's court" in Casablanca on March 6. The court will mainly deal with divorce-related problems, such as alimony, the difficulties of children after the divorce of their parents, the expulsion of the spouse from her home.
The Moroccan Union for Feminine Action has also worked out a program for the struggle against illiteracy destined to children aged between 8 and 16.
