Algerian presidential nominations to be completed tomorrow

The period of nominations for the April 15 presidential elections in Algeria will be ending tomorrow.

The head of electional process in the Algerian Ministry of Interior, Abd El-Kader Belhag, said that 48 persons have taken out the paperwork to run in the presidential elections and that the ministry recorded 60 complaints and oversights presented by four nominees, most of which concern obstacles placed by some local officials to gathering the required amount of nomination signatures.

Hours before closing the door to the presidential nominations, the leader of the national reform movement announced his nomination yesterday to be the second Islamic nominee after the head of the Peaceful Society Movement, Mahfouz Nahnah.

Eight Algerian opposition leaders, including six running for the presidency, have endorsed yesterday an electoral progam at the conclusion of elongated meetings held between them last week.

The charter includes political and technical programs that tackle the required guarantees for the honesty of the coming election, including the neutrality of organizations, and presenting copies and reports on counting votes to the nominees' representatives in the voting offices immediately after the counting process has ended.

The agreement was endorsed by Mahfouz Nahnah, Taleb El-Ibrahim, Lonira Hanoun, Abd Allah Gab Aballah, Former Prime Minister Maloud Hamroush, and head of the Socialist Front party, Ayet Ahmmed.
