Egypt's inhabitants amounted to 62.6 million

The number of Egypt's inhabitants amounted to 62.6 million citizens as of January 1, 1998.
The head of central department for statistics, General Ihab Elwi, told ArabicNews.com that the total of Egypt's inhabitants will amount to 123 million citizens in the year 2029, saying that there is a new Egyptian being born every 25 seconds.
Moreover General Elwai pointed out that Cairo comes at the top of the largest Egyptian governorates, with its population comprising 11.4% of Egypt's inhabitants, adding that the total number of Egypt's inhabitants jumped from 26 million in 1960 to 36 million in 1976, among them 5 million in Cairo alone.
