Libya - sanctions
Libya-UN, Politics, 2/26/1999
The UN Security Council is scheduled today to hold consultations on sanctions against Libya. A resolution the Security Council passed last August called for the Security Council to consider further sanctions if the two Libyan suspects in the Lockerbie case were not handed over promptly.
UN spokesman Fred Eckhard said today that Secretary General Kofi Annan briefed the Security Council on his contacts with Libya and that yesterday Annan delivered a letter to Libyan Foreign Minister Omar Muntasser in response to a letter from Muntasser last week asking for clarifications.
