Report: Jordan studies relations with Arab states
Jordan, Politics, 2/26/1999

The Jordanian daily al-Arab al-Youm (Arab today) on Wednesday highlighted political debates in Jordan on talks that the Jordanian royal court had assigned former Jordanian premiers to study certain issues.

The paper added that Zeid al-Refai, who formed his first Jordanian government in May 1973, was assigned to follow up on the file of relations with Syria; Mudar Badran was assigned to follow up the Iraqi issue; Ahmad Obeidat to follow up on internal issues; Zeid Bin Shaker to follow up on matters relating to the armed forces and affiliated departments.

Taher al-Masri, the paper added, was authorized to follow up on the issue of foreign relations, and Abdul Salam al-Majali is to follow up the issue of Jordanian-Palestinian relations and the requirements for peace.

The paper added that talks in Jordanian political circles say that in order to benefit from the relations Abdul Karim al-Kabareiti has with the Arab Gulf states and Saudi Arabia, he is assigned to study and follow up this issue.

Current Jordanian Prime Minister Fayez Tarawneh was assigned to follow up the remaining issues, especially relations with Egypt, as well as playing the role of a coordinator.
