US says it foiled seven attacks planned by Bin Laden
Regional-USA, Politics, 2/26/1999

The US daily USA Today reported on Wednesday that US intelligence agencies prevented the occurrence of at least seven attacks against US institutions abroad planned by the exiled Saudi billionaire Osama Bin Laden, since the two explosions that took place at the US embassies in Tanzania and Kenya last summer.

The paper added, quoting senior officials in the US intelligence, that these agencies foiled the occurrence of attacks against six US embassies and Prince Sultan air base in Saudi Arabia as numerous persons were arrested. The senior officials said that the targeted US embassies are in Tirana, Albania; Baku, Azerbaijan; Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Dushanbe, Tajikistan; Kampala, Uganda; and Montevideo, Uruguay.

The paper added that the US intelligence was able to warn the local officials against the plans against the embassies and air base through spying on Bin Laden's telephone calls via satellite.
