Belarus wants to enhance cooperation with Arab states

Belarussian President Alexander lkashenko said Wednesday his country was ready to develop cooperation with the Arab world and guarantee interests of Arabs inside Europe.

"Belarus is interested in developing economic and political cooperation with Arab states," the Itar-Tass news agency quoted the president as saying during a meeting with arab Ambassadors to Russia.

He stressed the importance of clearing the Middle East region from mass-destruction weapons and of achieving lasting peace in line with the land-for-peace principle.

He voiced satisfaction that Belarus was granted a full membership in the non-aligned movement (NAM) organization.

Lunkasheko called for unification of Arab states "to form a new international power that maintains balance."

Arab Ambassadors are in minsk at the invitation of Belarussian authorities.
