Sudanese opposition welcomes Libyan initiative
Sudan-Libya, Politics, 2/25/1999

The secretary general of the Sudanese opposition Democratic National Alliance, Mubarak El-Mahdi, confirmed today that the Sudanese opposition welcomed the call of the Libyan leadership to solve the Sudanese crisis peacefully.

El-Mahdi said the leaders of the DNA will fulfill the Libyan call in the coming week, adding that the head of the Ummah Party, El-Sadek El-Mahdi, will chair a delegation from the party to Tripoli.

He also said the date of the leadership's meeting will be specified after the DNA's second meeting is held.

Libya wants to hold negotiations between the Sudanese government and the opposition to settle the Sudanese dispute.

The statement said the Libyan call for the DNA leaders comes in light of strengthening dialogue concerning a peaceful settlement to the Sudan issue and to create more understanding in issues of joint interest.
