Mubarak receives Norwegian prime minister today

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak is to receive today Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik, who arrived in Cairo yesterday within the framework of his tour, which has included Israel, Jordan, and the Palestinian self-rule territories.

Egyptian Assistant Foreign Minister for European Affairs Fathi El-Shazely said that Bondevik is going to meet with Egyptian Prime Minister Kamal El-Ganzouri, Foreign Minister Amr Moussa and Minister of Higher Education Munfid Shinab.

El-Shazely described the visit of Bondevik as an important visit, as it is the first formal one for the Norwegian prime minister to Cairo, as well as because of its economic goal in order to upgrade economic relations between the two countries, especially in the domains of trade and investment.

Meanwhile, an economic seminar is to be held tonight among Egyptian and Norwegian businessmen to discuss supporting bilateral cooperation under the auspices of the prime ministers of the two countries.

Norway's ambassador in Cairo told ArabicNews.com that this seminar is a continuation of the Egyptian - Norwegian business symposium held last February in Oslo.

She added that the Kvaerner company obtained a contract for importing water pumps to the Toshka project in Egypt and that the Elkem company participates in estimating the Egyptian bars company raised for privatization.

The draft for reviving Alexandria library will also be discussed, financed by Norway and implemented under the auspices of UNESCO.
