Mubarak calls upon Europe for greater role in Mideast peace
Egypt-Germany, Politics, 2/25/1999
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has called upon the European countries, especially the Germans, to play a grater role in the Middle East peace process.
At the conclusion of his talks with the German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer in Bonn, Mubarak said Europe has to effectively take part in the efforts to resume Middle East peace negotiations.
In a joint press conference with the Egyptian president, the German Chancellor noted that stances between Bonn and Cairo are fairly similar concerning the Middle East peace process.
Meanwhile in similar statement, Egyptian Foreign Minister Amr Moussa has underlined the importance of a balanced European role in achieving a just and comprehensive peace in the Middle East.
In an interview with Sawt al-Arab radio on Wednesday on the occasion of his visit to Germany, Moussa said the European role in the Middle East peace process is very important and badly in need, especially at present in order to rescue the Middle East peace process from the deadlock it has reached.
Moussa added that the door is now open for Europe in order to carry out its role, which is balanced in comparison with stances adopted by other countries in their biased inclination to Israel.
