Tunis protests over Qatari al-Jazeera guest
Tunisia-Qatar, Politics, 2/24/1999

Tunisian sources in Cairo said that Tunis protested over a program on Qatar's satellite station, al-Jazeera, which hosted last Saturday Mohammed Mazaly, the former Tunisian prime minister on a sports program, in which the latter spoke on the issue of bribery leveled recently at officials on the International Olympic Committee, of which Mazaly is a member.

The sources said an official from al-Jazeera received the Tunisian protest, which expressed the anger over the hosting of a person wanted by justice in Tunisia, charged with planning to topple the government. The sources added that the protest included concern toward the coincidence of Mazaly's visit to Doha with the visit of Tunisian Defense Minister El-Habib Ben Yehia.

The Tunisian sources said that during his stay in Doha, Mazaly asked to meet with Qatari officials and specify the dates for these meetings, adding that there was no positive response from Doha.
