Iraqi opposition parties hold government responsible for al-Sader's assassination
Iraq, Politics, 2/24/1999

The Iraqi opposition parties have held the Iraqi authorities responsible for assassinating Ayatollah Muhammad Sadeq al-Sader and his two sons in al- Najaf.

They stressed that all evidence indicates the involvement of the "oppressive authority systems" in carrying out this operation in order to get rid of al- Sader who had repeatedly unmasked this authority's inhuman practices against the Iraqi people, a statement said.

In a statement circulated in Damascus on Tuesday, the parties said the assassination of al-Sader and his two sons is evidence of the anti-human nature in Iraq.

The statement urged the Iraqi people to continue their struggle in order to punish the ruling system for all its crimes and to foil its schemes to provoke sectarianism. It also urged the international community, the Organization of the Islamic Conference, the Arab League and the human and legal organizations to condemn the crimes of the dictatorship authority against the Iraqi men of religion, scholars and citizens.

The statement was undersigned by the Socialist Party in Iraq, the Kurdistani Democratic Socialist Party (Iraq), the Iraqi Democratic Federation, the Baath Arab Socialist Party (Qatari branch), the Nasserite Unionist coalition (Iraq), the Arab Socialist Movement (Iraq), the Kurdistan Toiling Party, the Kurdistani National Federation, the Iraqi Communist Party, the Iraqi al-Mujahidoun movement, the Islamic Call Party, the Higher Council of the Iraqi Revolution in Iraq (Damascus office), the Islamic Labor Organization, in Iraq, the Islamic federation for Iraqi Turks, the Islamic Movement in Iraq, the movement of al-Imam Jund (soldiers), the Islamic bloc in Iraq, the Movement of the Iraqi officers, the Islamic movement in Kurdistan of Iraq, the Iraqi Arab tribes and the Islamic Movement for the Turks of Iraq.
