Iraq, Politics, 2/24/1999
The governor of the Iraqi province of Dhi Qar, Lt. Gen. Ahmad Abdullah Saleh, has denied reports of acts of violence and arrests in al-Nasereyah city, which is situated in Dhi Qar.
Lt. Gen. Saleh added in a statement to AFP that the city is surviving naturally, despite the bombardment of the no-fly zone areas.
He stated that there have been no arrests and that reports quoted by foreign news agencies in this respect are groundless. For its part AFP said journalists did not notice during their visit to al-Nasereyah city, organized by the Iraqi authorities on Tuesday, "anything unusual in the city."
