Iraqis demonstrate in Iran in protest of assassinating Muhammad al-Sader
Iraq-Iran, Politics, 2/24/1999

Hundreds of Iraqis who reside in Iran tried to occupy the Iraqi embassy in Tehran in protest against the assassination of Shiite cleric Muhammad Sadeq al-Sader.

Iranian security forces tried to prevent the demonstrators from reaching the embassy and clashed with them. The clashes resulted in the wounding of five demonstrators.

Earlier, several hundred Iraqis who live in Iran gathered in front of the UN office in Tehran and chanted slogans against the Iraqi government. The demonstrators also called upon international circles to intervene in order to put an end to the massacres and the acts of oppression carried out against the Iraqi people.

The demonstrators raised black flags and banners and called for downing the regime in Baghdad. They denounced the assassination of al-Sader.
